The 2000 IUCN Red List classifies Rhesus Monkeys as a Lower Risk.
Rhesus Monkeys - Conservation Status
There are several categories of monkeys that have the following status: thus Crab-eating, Rhesus, Bonnet Monkeys have low status. Stump-tailed, Assamese, Celebes moor, Pig-tailed, Barbary, Tonkean are the species that have vulnerable status (IUCN). Threatened types are: Formosan Rock, Toque and endangered are: Japanese, Celebes and Lion-tailed.

Rhesus Monkeys - Behavior
These animals are diurnal animals and they prefer to be active during the day. They travel 9-10 hours each day in their home range of about 60-70 ha.
Rhesus Monkeys - Intelligence
These are highly intelligent animals. They are lively but may become bad-tempered as adults. The Rhesus Macaque is a highly intelligent monkey, which may explain why it is so commonly used in researches.
Rhesus Monkeys - Social Organization
These are very social animals. Group size ranges from small to as large as 236 members. Average size is about 9-58 members. There are several adult males, 2-3 times as many adult females, and an equal number of offspring in each group. The Rhesus Monkeys are both arboreal and terrestrial.
Young males leave the group to form new groups while females stay with the original group all their lives. Mature males are related to reproductive success. Males are aggressive toward other males and females. Usually females choose the strongest male to breed. Rhesus Monkey Males have a tendency to fight amongst themselves, while females live very harmoniously with each other. Females will participate within the group grooming, which further enhances their bonds.
Rhesus Monkeys - Adaptabilty
These are very adaptable animals. They got used to living near people along with living in the wild. These are widely distributed animals. Thus some populations live in the flatlands, others prefer North India and Pakistan. Rhesus Monkeys are able to adapt to hot climates with dry temperatures found in the deserts as well as to the cold winter temperatures, which may even fall below freezing points.
